Day 19 – He Knows You! ~ Dane & Julie

Galatians 4:8-11

Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by Godhow is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11 I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

Dane and Julie’s Nugget

We have all done it before. We have lost sight of God and started to forget what he has done for us. Its an easy thing to do because the world is constantly pulling us in the wrong direction. In this passage, they were being pulled back to the weak and miserable laws – to following regulations and observations of special days that had been set up in the Old Covenant. They were going back to their old ways rather than walking with God in His grace, love and leading as the gospel teaches.

In our day and age, we are often sucked back to our weak and miserable sins and lusts rather than walking in God’s grace, love and leading. Our society is no help. It does it’s best to pull us in. We are constantly bombarded by the media with promises of being happier if we buy the newest car or engage in blatant sexual sin.

How is it that the church in Galatia and the church in the here and  both struggle with turning back to those weak and miserable activities and principles? It’s because we get sucked into the devil’s lies. He tells some of us that happiness and fulfillment come by following laws and regulations. He tells others that happiness and fulfillment come by following our lusts. In both instances the devil is doing his best to make us forget the awesome happiness and incredible fulfillment that comes from knowing God and being known by God. He is all we need!

To Ponder

Before Jesus came, our sin kept us from intimacy with God. But once Jesus paid for our sins, He created a way for us to know God and be known by God. What a gift! Spend the next couple days pondering the immense gift you have been given through Jesus. You have not only been given access – but intimacy – with the God of the universe. He knows you and loves you beyond comprehension!

God bless you as you rejoice in this gift,

Dane and Julie Earl
