Day 3 – Whose Approval Do You Want? ~ Dane Earl
Galatians 1:10-12
10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
Dane’s Nugget
Don’t shoot me for saying this before I explain it, but as verse 10 says, Christians are not called to be people pleasers. In the past, and even in the present, I will sometimes catch myself trying to post a picture, a quote or something that I believe will get the most “likes, shares or views.” I am not saying that social media is bad, or trying to have more influence is wrong. As christians we are first called to be lovers of God and lovers of people, not lovers of “likes or views.”
How can we apply this to our lives?
You are called to be a pleaser of God, and when you focus on Him, and your heart is to genuinely serve Him, your influence will increase. Although we don’t serve God to get greater influence, this is a byproduct of relationship with God. Here are a few practical tips to grow in relationship, and as a result influence.
-Be consistent in his Word – the Bible.
-Be teachable and try not to have an “I know it all” attitude.
-Be focused on LOVE as the reason for doing things.
-Be consistent. True influence is the result of you living a lifestyle of love consistently over a period of time.
I hope this helps and God bless,
Dane Earl
