Day 28 – On the Hunt for Opportunities ~ Julie Earl

Galatians 6:6-10

Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Julie’s Nugget

When I told God I would no longer say no to His promptings, I was amazed at how many opportunities arose for me to share His words, gifts and love with people. Before I made that commitment, I didn’t see all the opportunities God had for me because I wasn’t looking or listening for them.

Verse ten says, “As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people….” Fortunately, everywhere we go, God has opportunities for us to do good. The key is to always be on the hunt for those opportunities.

If we are focused fully on our shopping list, our workout or the tasks at work or school, then we will miss out on what the Lord wants to say and do through us in each of those settings. But if we choose to stay tuned in to God’s voice as He speaks to our thoughts, we will discover countless opportunities to do good to believers and nonbelievers.

An Example

I share numerous examples in my book No More No, as well as on our website and on Facebook, so I would encourage you to take a peek. One story happened when I was swimming laps at the gym and chatting on and off with a man swimming beside me. When I was almost done swimming, I hunted for an opportunity to do good by asking the Holy Spirit, “Do you have anything for this gentleman?” As soon as I asked, I got a picture in my mind’s eye of him sitting on a couch with Jesus and they were enjoying each other’s presence. I didn’t sense that he was walking with the Lord, but I went ahead and shared what I saw. As it turned out, he had turned his back on God a few months before because his sister died of cancer and left small children behind. I was able to talk and pray with him, and by the end of the conversation he told me he was going to go back to the cemetery where he had turned his back on God, and ask God for forgiveness and give his life back to Jesus.

If I hadn’t “hunted” for an opportunity to do good, this man would have missed out on all that God wanted to do in his heart that day.

God has countless opportunities for all of us. We simply need to trust His voice, ignore our fears and doubts, and be the hands, feet and mouth of the Father to the world!

Have fun on the hunt!
