Day 31 – Who Can I Trust to Get out of Deception? – Dane Earl

Romans 15:13

Trust is a word that doesn’t always bring positive emotions because trust requires putting yourself in a position where you have the chance of getting hurt. Trust is difficult because it is the act of giving up control and surrendering it to someone else. Trust is vital, though, in learning how to walk in truth and to become free from deception. When we are free from deception, we are able to walk in joy, peace and hope. Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” No one wants to live in lies and deception, so who do we trust to help free us from them? Jesus and godly people.

#1 Trust in Jesus To Get Out of Deception
When Satan starts to throw lies at us such as “You are not beautiful” or “You need this car to feel secure” or even “I’ve messed up in other areas so it can’t hurt to sleep with someone” or other theological lies, it is often hard to see the truth. Each of these lies ultimately leads to hopelessness. To combat hopelessness and Satanic lies, we have to trust in God so that He can overflow our hearts with hope. God is trustworthy and everything He says is truth, so our job is to hang out with Him by reading the Bible, talking continually with Him and staying in His presence. As we absorb His truth and what is best for us, we will be able to recognize and break free from deception.

#2 Trust in Godly People To Get Out of Deception

To get out of deception and to stop believing lies, it is important to also have godly people who you can trust. Proverbs 28:26 says, “He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.” It is wisdom to have at least one person in your life who has a strong relationship with Jesus, who spends a lot of time in God’s presence and who knows you well. This person needs to be told that they can freely speak into your life, and that you will listen very seriously to any concerns they have in regard to your behaviors, attitudes and thoughts. This way if you are in deception they can let you know and call you out on it.

In other words, you will have to trust God and someone else more than you trust yourself to get out of deception!

God bless,
Dane
