Begin a Relationship with God
God Is Perfect
Because God is completely perfect, sin can't survive in His presence. When Adam and Eve sinned, they could no longer walk with God because of their sin.
The Good News
The good news is that God loves us passionately and wants to spend now and eternity with us. He’s not angry and trying to throw people in hell. He’s doing everything He can to keep us out of hell and to love us back to His heart.
Ephesians 3:17-19
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power…to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16-18
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
We Can't Earn Salvation
We can’t earn salvation through good deeds, going to church or by crawling ten miles on our knees to show how sorry we are. Jesus said to believe in Him and receive by faith the forgiveness and grace He earned for us when He died on the cross for our sins, our healing, our peace and our provision.
We don’t become righteous in God’s sight by following certain rules or laws. We become righteous and holy in God’s sight when we put our faith in Jesus and believe Him implicitly, trusting Him with our lives and allowing Him to fill us with His Spirit.
Titus 3:4-5
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
Romans 3:22
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
Salvation Is A Gift
Salvation is a gift and must be received as a gift.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
When we receive Jesus and His gift of forgiveness, we choose to repent (or turn) from going our way and we choose to go God’s way and follow His wisdom. We say yes to God in everything we do, trusting He loves us and knows what is best for us.
John 3:35-36
The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.
Romans 10:9-10
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Romans 10:11-13
As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile [non-Jews]—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
If You Want to Receive God's Gift:
- Quit trusting in your good deeds and believe that God sent His Son into the world to forgive and save the world
- Call on Jesus and receive His forgiveness for your past, present and future sins
- Invite God’s Spirit to live inside you and baptize (fill) you with His power and love
It is as simple, but as amazing as saying,
"God, I am sorry for all my sins. I receive all that you paid for when you died on the cross - salvation, healing, peace and provision for every area of my life. Fill me with Your Spirit and come into my life and be in charge. I scoot over in the driver's seat and allow you to take the wheel! Amen."
Now That You Are a Child of God:
John 1:12
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
- Find other Bible-believing Christians who can help you grow.
- Get a Bible and begin reading it daily (the New Testament is a great place to start, but it’s all awesome).
- Begin going to a good church that teaches you to live like Jesus and do the works Jesus said you would do because you have the Holy Spirit’s power within you.
- Read or re-read the last three chapters of Julie's book No More No because falling in love with Jesus, falling in love with people and knowing who you are in Christ are all important keys to an amazing life as a Christian.
