Lifting the Spirits of the Lyft Drivers ~ Marie (Texas)
I was in Atlanta recently and it was my first time using Lyft (a car ride service offered by individuals). I took Lyft 2 times a day (to and from my conference) and I made small talk with each person. I don't know if Lyft trains drivers to be open to conversation, but they were all great listeners and not quick to talk. I asked them about themselves--what they did before Lyft; what they liked about doing Lyft; what they had dreams of doing.
Then about halfway through my ride, I would say, "I really like to pray for people. Is there something you need prayer for?"
One woman said she needed a place of her own. I thought she was in her early 20s because she looked so young. She said "I'm the oldest of 5."
"Do you live at home?"
"No, I'm 40."
I was blown away and shocked. She certainly wasn't eating much to be that little at 40. (She was THIN.) "Where do you usually sleep?"
"Wherever I can find a place."
I was uncertain what that meant, so I asked "Can I pray for you to see your dream come true?"
"Yes."
I prayed for her to have an apartment of her own that she could decorate and use her creativity for Jesus, and I prayed that she would be drawn to Father God who created her and loves her, etc. It seemed like a very BIG dream that I was praying, but that didn't matter. Father is bigger than all of our needs.
I prayed for every Lyft driver and each person thanked me. Some were very grateful and none were annoyed. It was pure delight for me to do this. Perhaps we should all take a short Lyft every week and use it to love the drivers God leads our way!
